Associate Practice Area Director
Join a globally recognized engineering consultancy specializing in highly technical buildings and the systems that power them. We are seeking a performance-driven, entrepreneurial leader to partner with our global Science & Technology team and help grow, lead, and shape this practice across the Western region.
This is a rare opportunity to leverage an established brand, strong client relationships, and a robust project pipeline while building and scaling a high-impact practice focused on pharmaceutical manufacturing, laboratories, semiconductor facilities, and medical device environments. The role offers significant visibility, autonomy, and a clear path to long-term leadership and ownership.
In this senior leadership position, you will lead efforts to pursue, win, and execute complex Science & Technology projects while overseeing regional team performance, business planning, and operational excellence. You’ll work closely with regional and global leadership to align strategy, grow revenue, and deliver technically exceptional projects.

What You’ll Do
As Associate Practice Area Director, you will oversee and expand an established regional team while driving growth, client satisfaction, and technical excellence.
Key responsibilities include:

Leading pursuit, capture, and execution of Science & Technology projects across the region

Developing and executing regional business plans aligned with global practice strategy

Driving new revenue generation and expanding existing client relationships

Building and maintaining strong external networks with owners, architects, PM/CM firms, and contractors

Tracking leads, forecasting pipelines, and developing winning pursuit strategies and teams

Ensuring technical excellence and consistent, high-quality project delivery

Providing executive-level problem-solving and guidance on complex project challenges

Overseeing project financial performance and reporting structures

Coordinating staffing and pursuits across offices and practice areas nationally

Developing and articulating a clear market value proposition and competitive differentiation

Leading and supporting client presentations focused on integrated service offerings

Writing thought leadership content and speaking at industry conferences and events

Leading strategic recruitment of senior talent and mentoring emerging leaders

Staying current on regional and global market trends to keep the practice technically and strategically competitive
Annual revenue expectations for this role range from $1M–$3M, averaged over two years.
What Our Client is Looking For
This is a senior, externally facing leadership role requiring a blend of technical expertise, market credibility, and business acumen.
Preferred qualifications include:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (significant relevant experience may be considered in lieu)

12+ years of experience in Science & Technology or Life Sciences facility design

At least 5 years of experience within a consulting engineering or A/E environment
-
Minimum of 5 years in a management or practice leadership role

5+ years of business development experience within engineering or A/E services
-
Deep knowledge of MEP systems for complex technical facilities
-
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license

Strong understanding of owner business drivers, capital planning, and risk management

Proven ability to lead in fast-paced, growth-oriented environments

Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills
