Assistant or Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering

Central Connecticut State University invites applications to join the Department of Engineering as a full-time, tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering beginning August 2025. This new faculty position will become part of a dynamic department that includes a growing undergraduate program in Electrical Engineering, which launched in Fall 2020.

About the Engineering Department

The Engineering Department is one of 11 departments within the university’s School of Engineering, Science, and Technology. The department is primarily located in the Applied Innovation Hub, a state-of-the-art facility opened in 2022. This building features technology-enhanced active learning classrooms, computer-based classrooms, senior capstone project labs, and teaching and research laboratories equipped with cutting-edge equipment and instrumentation. Additional manufacturing facilities are housed in Nicolaus Copernicus Hall, while aerospace and fluid control labs are located in the Bichum Engineering Laboratory building.

The Engineering Department includes 20 full-time faculty and a number of experienced part-time faculty, who together serve more than 700 students (as of Fall 2024). Academic offerings include four ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Manufacturing Engineering Technology. The department also includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, minor and graduate certificate in Systems Engineering, and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering which has an accelerated pathway from the undergraduate program.

Position Profile

Responsibilities include teaching, service, and engaging in research, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary research. This tenure-track appointment encompasses developing and teaching a variety of electrical engineering courses, contributing significantly to undergraduate research, and actively engaging in scholarly activities with a continuous research agenda. Department faculty are also expected to develop and maintain teaching laboratories, participate in program assessment and ABET accreditation activities, serve on departmental and university committees, advise students, and engage with employers and community stakeholders. The regular teaching load is 12 hours per semester with some evening classes required.

To be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor:

  • Earned doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field. ABD candidates must include a letter from the thesis advisor stating the anticipated date of completion, which must be prior to the time of appointment.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering.
  • College or university teaching experience in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
  • At least two years of relevant full-time industrial experience in the related areas, or equivalent R&D experience in industrial, and government research labs.
  • Publication record commensurate with experience.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with ABET accreditation activities; experience in developing and maintaining teaching laboratories. P.E. license.

To be hired at the rank of Associate Professor:

  • Earned doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering. At least five years of full-time service in a college or university at the rank of Assistant Professor or above, teaching courses in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
  • At least two years of relevant full-time industrial experience in the related areas, or equivalent R&D experience in industrial, and government research labs.
  • Publication record commensurate with experience.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualification: Leadership experience in preparing university programs for ABET accreditation; a proven track record of collaborating with industry to secure external funding for applied research projects involving undergraduate or graduate students; possession of a professional engineering (P.E.) license; and a demonstrated history of excellence in teaching, scholarly activities, academic advising.

Compensation and Employee Benefits

In accordance with the Connecticut State University American Association of University Professors (AAUP) Collective Bargaining Union Contract, compensation for this position is at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor for 2024-2025.
