Job Summary
This is a Yacht Club in New England, known for delivering world-class sailing and waterfront experiences. The Assistant Waterfront Director (AWD) is a full-time, year-round position that plays a key leadership role in ensuring exceptional service, smooth operations, and a well-maintained waterfront for our Members.
Working closely with the year-round Waterfront Director, the AWD’s primary focus is on Launch Service, Dock Slips, Dock Maintenance and Appearance, and the Powerboat Program, while also supporting the Club’s sailing programs, regattas, and Junior Yacht Club. The AWD directly supervises seasonal staff—including Launch Drivers, Dock Attendants, and the Bosun—setting the tone for professionalism, safety, and Member-first service.
The AWD must be highly adaptable and capable of stepping into any aspect of Sailing & Waterfront operations as needed. While the position is year-round, the summer season is fast-paced and demanding, requiring full availability, six-day work weeks (and additional hours as needed), and a service-first mindset to meet the demands of a short but very active season.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
· Deliver outstanding customer service with professionalism, friendliness, and attention to detail; maintain a clean, safe, and orderly waterfront at all times.
· Supervise and mentor launch drivers, dock attendants, and the Bosun; create schedules, assign tasks, and set high standards for service, safety, and appearance.
· Oversee Launch Service, Slips and Reservations, Dock Maintenance, and Powerboat Programs, ensuring facilities, vessels, and equipment are fully operational, clean, and Member-ready.
· Act as launch driver a minimum of three shifts per week; maintain a valid USCG Masters Captain’s License
· Coordinate maintenance and repairs of Club powerboats, sailboats, coach boats, kayaks, paddleboards, and other fleet assets; ensure preventative maintenance is performed and enlist outside support when needed.
· Demonstrate practical, hands-on ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of boats, engines, systems, and dock equipment; step in to make fixes directly whenever possible to minimize downtime and ensure Member readiness.
· Collaborate with the Sailing Director to support Adult and Junior sailing programs, regattas, and lessons; serve as an instructor when needed (minimum US Sailing Level 1 Certification). to build sailing skills and strengthen Member connection to the Club.
· Assist with race management, cruises, and special events, acting as Race Officer or manager on duty in the absence of the Waterfront Director.
· Work with the Sailing Office Coordinator on Member communications, marketing, bookings, billing, and promotions.
· Routinely check Member and Club boats for safety and security; promptly address and communicate any issues.
· Remain flexible and capable of stepping into any aspect of Sailing & Waterfront operations as needed—on the docks, on the water, in the office, or in support of programs and events.

Qualifications
· College degree or equivalent professional experience preferred.
· USCG 25 Ton License with advanced seamanship and boat-handling skills.
· Minimum US Sailing Level 1 Certification; Race Management training preferred.
· Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
· Minimum two years in a customer service or hospitality role.
· Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot diesel/gas engines and small mechanical issues; general handiness and problem-solving skills essential.
· Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs and working on your feet for extended periods.
