About the Role:

Our client within the Real Estate industry is looking for an Assistant Controller to join their Property Accounting team on a permanent basis. In this role you will manage a small team of two property accountants and be responsible for the financial reporting and annual operating and capital budgeting process.

Responsibilities:

  • Mentor the accounting team by guiding career development and linking individual contributions to overall business success.
  • Promote employee engagement through thoughtful decision-making and lead by example to inspire adaptability and openness to change.
  • Oversee accurate financial reporting and manage the annual operating and capital budgeting process for designated properties in the GTA.
  • Collaborate with municipal authorities and realty tax consultants on appeals, rebates, and tenant-related tax matters.
  • Partner with teams such as Portfolio, Asset Management, and Property Management to support business initiatives including acquisitions, dispositions, and special projects.
  • Train and support staff in applying accounting policies and maintaining compliance with company standards.
  • Champion excellent customer service and strong communication within the team.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by evaluating existing practices and implementing more efficient and effective processes.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study
  • Minimum 5 years working within Commercial Property Management
  • Previous leadership experience required (coaching and mentorship of junior staff)
  • Experience with Yardi a strong asset
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
