A well-established real estate development and management company is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee property-level accounting and lead a high-performing property accountant team. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings experience in real estate accounting, financial reporting, and operational oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of property accountants, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for a diverse portfolio of commercial and residential properties
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Manage property-level budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in partnership with asset and property management teams
  • Ensure timely and accurate CAM reconciliations, lease accounting, and tenant billing
  • Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders to support audits, reporting, and compliance
  • Drive process improvements and system enhancements to increase efficiency and scalability
  • Support the Corporate Controller with consolidated reporting, cash flow analysis, and strategic initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA required (or in progress)
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in real estate or property management
  • Proven leadership experience managing accounting teams
  • Strong understanding of property-level accounting, CAM reconciliations, and lease structures
  • Proficiency in real estate accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar) and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
