Summary
Under the direction and supervision of department manager(s), the full-time Assistant Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing various daily accounting activities, managing accounting projects, and assisting internal and external customers.
This is an exempt, full-time position.
Primary Responsibilities
- Payment and Financial Processing
- Prepare, initiate, and post ACH payments, wire transfers, and online payments; prepare related journal entries.
- Review payment proposals and process payments for cost invoices and employee reimbursements.
- Approve expense invoices for accuracy and compliance.
- Reconciliation and Reporting
- Process and reconcile credit card statements.
- Reconcile the assigned balance sheet accounts.
- Support and maintain CNS CASS reconciliation.
- Assist with AP aging clean-up and vendor file updates.
- Provide support for 1099 reporting.
- Vendor Management
- Complete credit applications for vendors.
- Maintain and update vendor files to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Team Leadership and Coordination
- Supervise 2–3 accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and performance reviews.
- Collaborate with other departments to streamline processes and address interdepartmental tasks.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping for assigned duties and projects.
- Analysis and Problem-Solving
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, reporting findings to management.
- Compile, organize, and analyze documentation for business transactions.
- Customer Service and Communication
- Respond promptly to accounting inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain regular communication with overseas affiliates, agents, vendors, and other departments.
- Ad Hoc Tasks
- Provide coverage for team members during absences.
- Undertake additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 5-10 years of operational accounting experience.
- Proven supervisory experience, including staff development.
- Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables) and Word.
- Experience with SAP is preferred.
- Familiarity with U.S. GAAP, SOX, or Japan SOX regulations.
- Industry Knowledge
- Experience in the freight-forwarding or logistics industry is plus not required
