Area Sales Manager

Key Highlights

Role Overview

The Area Sales Manager is responsible for owning and growing sales of Company’s power system testing solutions within the assigned Northeast territory. This role combines strategic account management, channel/rep management, and hands-on business development, with a strong emphasis on the electric power sector.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Territory & Sales Management

    • Drive sales of Company products and services within the assigned territory in the Northeast U.S.

    • Build, manage, and grow a robust pipeline of opportunities with utilities, industrials, service providers, OEMs, and engineering firms.

    • Provide regular territory updates, forecasts, and performance summaries for management and sales meetings.

  • Manufacturer’s Representative / Channel Management

    • Lead and support manufacturer’s reps in the region, including onboarding, product training, joint visits, and performance reviews.

    • Work closely with reps to develop territory plans, align on targets, and ensure consistent messaging and brand representation.

  • Business Development & Market Intelligence

    • Identify new customers, applications, and market segments for Company’s testing and diagnostic solutions.

    • Participate in market analysis, sales forecasting, and lead follow-up to maximize conversion and revenue.

    • Share insights on competitors, pricing, market trends, and customer feedback to help shape product and go-to-market strategy.

  • Promotional & Customer-Facing Activities

    • Plan and support conferences, user groups, roadshows, seminars, local exhibitions, and on-site product demonstrations.

    • Coordinate and/or deliver post-sale customer training and ensure a smooth handoff to technical and service teams.

    • Act as a visible ambassador for Company at industry events and customer locations.

  • Quoting, CRM & Internal Collaboration

    • Oversee accurate and timely quote generation in collaboration with Sales Support.

    • Maintain and continuously update the CRM with contacts, activities, opportunities, and account notes to ensure high data quality.

    • Record and track all sales activity in line with Company’s sales processes and reporting requirements.

    • Engage Regional/Application Specialists to provide deeper technical expertise and high-impact product presentations when needed.

  • Product & Process Feedback

    • Recommend enhancements to products, services, and internal processes based on customer needs and market feedback.

    • Communicate regularly with other Area Sales Managers and internal stakeholders on product issues, customer perception, and best practices.

  • Other Responsibilities

    • Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned by the National Sales Manager – USA and Canada.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Solid understanding of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems and major high-voltage apparatus.

  • Familiarity with testing methodologies and maintenance practices used to ensure safe, reliable power system operation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and negotiation abilities.

  • Comfortable conducting product demonstrations on-site, with or without support from applications engineers.

  • Ability to explain products, technologies, and test concepts to technicians, engineers, supervisors, managers, and executives via:

    • In-person visits

    • Phone and video calls

    • Email

    • Webinars and trade events

  • High level of professional integrity, business ethics, and personal accountability.

  • Understanding of how electric utilities, government agencies, manufacturers, and large industrial power users are structured and how they make purchasing decisions in the North American market.

  • Team-focused mindset with the ability to align personal goals with regional and corporate objectives.

  • Capable of both strategic territory planning and agile response to changing customer or market conditions.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Willing and able to travel domestically up to 50%; occasional international travel may be required.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in power systems, preferably in power system protection and/or high-voltage apparatus applications.

  • Minimum 3 years of direct sales or channel/partner management experience, ideally selling testing equipment, instrumentation, or related technologies into the electric power industry.

  • Experience participating in industry conferences, exhibitions, and technical seminars at local, regional, national, or international levels.

  • Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales and revenue targets.
