Applications Engineer- Power Distribution
We are seeking a forward-thinking and technically strong electrical engineer to join a growing engineering organization focused on delivering practical, customer-driven power solutions. This role is well suited for someone who enjoys applying electrical engineering knowledge to real-world applications, solving technical challenges, and working closely with both customers and internal teams to develop effective system solutions.
The position centers on adapting electrical products and systems for customer-specific applications, ensuring technical requirements are met, performance expectations are achieved, and designs align with relevant industry standards. The successful candidate will work across engineering, commercial, and operations functions to support solution development from concept through execution.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Application Engineering
- Develop and adapt electrical systems and components to meet project-specific or market-specific requirements
- Support the design of customer-focused power distribution solutions while ensuring alignment with applicable certification and compliance requirements such as UL, ANSI, CE and IEEE.
- Prepare preliminary layouts, configuration documents, and material lists for engineered solutions.
Customer and Commercial Support
- Work directly with customers to understand technical needs, operating conditions, and project challenges.
- Provide technical guidance during the quotation and proposal stages to help develop accurate and practical solutions.
- Support commercial teams by translating customer requirements into technically sound offerings.
Technical Analysis and Product Optimization
- Review electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring drawings, and equipment layouts to support design development and system application.
- Investigate new components, technologies, and design approaches to improve cost effectiveness, reliability, manufacturability, and overall quality.
- Assist with equipment selection and configuration based on project requirements and code compliance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and customer-facing teams to ensure successful delivery of tailored electrical solutions.
- Contribute to the resolution of technical issues that arise during design, application, integration, or implementation phases.
Problem Solving and Communication
- Troubleshoot technical challenges related to the application or integration of electrical equipment and systems.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to internal stakeholders and external customers through proposals, documentation, presentations, and discussions.
- Support knowledge sharing, training, and technical alignment across teams where needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a concentration in power systems.
- At least 5 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, utility, or EPC-related environments, with exposure to electrical distribution equipment and systems.
- Strong understanding of applicable industry codes and standards including NEC, NFPA 70E, ANSI, IEEE (C37.x series), NEMA, and UL standards such as UL 891, UL 845, and UL 1558
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line drawings, and equipment arrangement drawings.
- Solid knowledge of low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment including LV/MV switchgear, switchboards, circuit breakers, MCCs, and general power distribution system architecture
- Experience applying relevant electrical codes and standards in equipment selection, design, and implementation such as NEC, IEEE, and UL.
- Ability to prepare bills of materials, configuration packages, and early-stage design documentation for project-specific applications.
- Working knowledge of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, EPlan), power system modeling tools (EasyPower, ETAP, SKM, …)
- Familiarity with relay logic, PLC/HMI control basics, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, IEC 61850)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across customer, commercial, engineering, and manufacturing groups.
- Ability to explain technical information clearly in written documents, presentations, and customer-facing discussions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience specifying or designing switchboards, and LV/MV metal-clad and metal-enclosed switchgear
- Familiarity with building-related code requirements and electrical enclosure or equipment-room applications.
- Professional credentials such as engineering licensure, project management certification, or manufacturer-related technical certifications.
- Flexibility to support urgent client needs or time-sensitive project demands when required.
