Real Estate Analyst

The Real Estate Analyst will analyze and interpret real estate documents and market data to properly assess the value of multi-family affordable housing projects in markets across the United States. The Analyst will work closely with other Analysts, Advisors, and the Managing Director to identify value-add opportunities and determine an accurate valuation for an asset. The Analyst may also assemble marketing proposals, prepare formal marketing campaigns, and build property websites for real estate listings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite Project Based Section 8 and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit projects; build financial models using Excel
  • Review, analyze, and interpret various types of real estate documents including operating statements, loan documents, regulatory agreements and other information used in the underwriting process
  • Research and apply information on state and local statutes and requirements impacting property valuation; confer with municipalities to obtain and verify information
  • Provide appropriate market comparables to support underwriting analysis
  • Present results of analyses and strategize with co-workers to generate a comprehensive valuation for a project
  • Prepare a broker opinion of value (BOV) summarizing the valuation and disposition strategy for delivery to client

Skills and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Real Estate, Finance, Accounting, or Economics from four-year college or university required.
  • MBA and/or analytical experience in real estate, finance or appraisal preferred
  • Current or previous employment with an affordable DUS lender, regional or national multifamily brokerage, or affordable developer strongly preferred
  • Proficient in full Microsoft Office Suite while being overall very tech-savvy, particularly in a Mac environment
  • Solid understanding of financial terms and principles necessary in real estate underwriting
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in order to meet deadlines while maintaining exceptional organizational, research, and analytic skills
  • Highly-developed verbal and written communication skills – ability to interact effectively and professionally with team-members, clients and prospects
  • Meticulous attention to detail and aesthetics in presentation materials and analyses
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic
