Advance Manufacturing Engineer – Tier 1 Automotive Supplier – Greater Detroit Area

Company overview:

This is a publicly-traded manufacturing company that works in a variety of automotive and transportation industries. Their products and systems are critical elements in the management of mechanical and electrical systems to improve overall vehicle performance, convenience and monitoring in areas such as emissions control, fuel efficiency, safety, security and infotainment.

Position overview:

Advance Manufacturing Controls Engineer will develop and deliver installation of manufacturing equipment and systems for manual-to-highly automated assembly and test equipment. They will predominantly be working on mechatronics/actuator and control devices product lines. Communications with M&E vendors will inform electrical and controls requirements for new manufacturing equipment and systems. The individual in this position should be able to work independently and a team-based environment.


  • Develop Flow Diagram and PFMEA for all new products, establishing M&E specifications with input from utilization and PMFEA requirements
  • Complete cost estimates for changes and new opportunities
  • Coordinate vendor machine qualifications, plant transfer, and plant installation
  • Test equipment and operator utilization
  • Complete delivery of manufacturing documentation, including PFD, PFMEA, PCP
  • Deliver work instructions, quality check sheets, PM instructions TPM requirements, calibration/masters and associated instructions
  • Provide detailed Line Side Review of all manufacturing requirements
  • Lead Pilot Run Events (or equivalent) for customers at plant
  • Hand off cell readiness from M&E to process engineering when performance has reached agreed levels


  • B.A. in Electrical, Mechanical or related field in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in machine design and testing equipment prior to production
  • Proven understanding of mechanical/electrical concepts
  • Program management experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical/electrical concepts
  • Understanding of PLC controls/Labview/Visual Basic techniques
  • Functional knowledge of Six Sigma or Shainin techniques
  • Willingness to travel to support launch programs (25-75%)
