Accounting Supervisor

Full service Brickell law firm is seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to lead and oversee the firm’s financial operations. This role is essential to maintaining the integrity of our accounting processes, ensuring compliance with legal industry standards, and supporting the firm’s ongoing operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legal accounting, including trust (IOLTA) compliance, along with demonstrated leadership experience, sound financial judgment, and a proactive approach to process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Operations & Reporting
• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and trust account activity
• Lead the monthly close process, including preparation and review of reconciliations
• Prepare and review financial reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
• Monitor cash flow, including weekly cash summaries and necessary fund transfers
• Manage firm and trust cash activity, including wires, ACH payments, and internal transfers
• Ensure accurate and timely recording of payroll transactions in the general ledger

Trust Accounting & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with trust (IOLTA) accounting rules and regulatory requirements
• Oversee trust account activity, including reconciliations and reporting
• Maintain adherence to cash basis accounting standards and internal controls

Banking & Cash Management
• Maintain banking relationships and related documentation
• Monitor account balances, transactions, and overall cash position
• Oversee Positive Pay processes for ACH and check activity

Systems & Data Integrity

• Ensure accuracy of financial data within Aderant and coordinate with IT to resolve discrepancies
• Oversee accounting record management within Expert Image
• Maintain accounting and disaster recovery documentation

Leadership & Team Development
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
• Establish clear performance expectations and accountability standards
• Serve as a resource to staff and leadership on financial and operational matters
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing development of team members

Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Support
• Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities
• Partner with billing, payroll, and IT teams to support efficient firm operations

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
10+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
Prior supervisory or leadership experience with direct reports
Strong knowledge of legal accounting practices, including trust (IOLTA) compliance
Experience managing monthly close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Experience with Aderant or similar systems required
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels
