Our client, a rapidly growing and locally based law firm, has retained our firm to identify an Accounting Manager. This newly created role will report to the firm’s Managing Partner and will have responsibility for all accounting / finance operations (team of 3), development of accounting business processes, billing / accounts receivable, accounts payable, monthly reporting, and payroll.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of all day to day accounting transactions, month-end close, and monthly financial reporting to the firm leadership
  • Manage Billing Department staff, including Legal Billing Analyst and Assistant Billing Specialists, to ensure that prebills are generated in a timely manner for review by the firm’s attorneys, and subsequently that bills are submitted to insurance carriers for payment, in accordance with their detailed standards
  • Deposit checks and record payments to the firm for invoices in billing software
  • Maintain the accounts receivable report and distribute individualized reports monthly to the firm’s Partners for review
  • Reconcile billing and QuickBooks/sales account
  • Conduct meetings to review vendor statements and ensure that all third-party invoices are accounted for and have been processed appropriately
  • Prepare hours billed reports for Associates
  • Run trust account balance report monthly and true up client overpayment liability on financial statements
  • Enter the firm’s credit card statement into QuickBooks
  • Process staff reimbursements for travel and other expenses
  • Calculate quarterly bonuses
  • Regularly assess financial processes and seek to identify ways to improve efficiency
  • Ad hoc reporting and other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must possess a strong knowledge of accounting procedures and GAAP compliance
  • Must be accurate and detail oriented, possess strong organizational and time management skills, and have the ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex and fast paced environment
  • Must have the ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with internal personnel and external clients, carriers, and vendors
  • Must have the ability to lead others and be willing to provide accurate and clear direction and feedback
  • Advanced competency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with accounting and billing software (i.e., QuickBooks and Orion) a plus
  • Ability to retain and protect confidential material and information

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of full-cycle accounting, preferably at a managerial level
  • Bachelor's in Accounting
  • Law firm accounting and/or billing experience is a plus
  • Certified Public Accountant certification is a plus
