Credit Union Accountant for BCM Credit Union
Job Summary:
The Credit Union Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting the overall financial health of the credit union. This role involves preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, assisting with audits, and ensuring adherence to accounting principles and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and account reconciliations
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends and variances
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and accounting standards
- Assist with internal and external audits, including documentation and reporting
- Reconcile bank accounts, investment accounts, and member transaction records
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
- Assist with regulatory reporting requirements
- Identify and implement process improvements for accounting operations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2–5 years of accounting experience (financial institution or credit union experience preferred)
- Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Familiarity with credit union regulations and compliance requirements is a plus
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with core banking or credit union systems
- Understanding of NCUA regulations and reporting
- CPA or progress toward certification is a plus
Work Environment:
- Typically office-based with standard business hours
- May require extended hours during audits or reporting periods
