Our client in the Insurance Sector is seeking to onboard a Assistant Accountant for a three months period for their Port of Spain office.
Salary Range: $10K - $12K
Job Summary:
This position will require you to perform routine accounting and bookkeeping duties following established procedures including the verifying and reconciling of accounts and preparation of Financial Statements for the Pension Plans and Life. He/she will also be required to prepare reports for submission to internal & external agencies.

Job Summary:
This position will require you to perform routine accounting and bookkeeping duties following established procedures including the verifying and reconciling of accounts and preparation of Financial Statements for the Pension Plans and Life. He/she will also be required to prepare reports for submission to internal & external agencies.
Job Requirements:
- Provides prompt and quality Customer Service by projecting and demonstrating a high level of professionalism, courtesy and initiative in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
- Maintains local investment sub ledgers & complete journals for sub ledger entries for the 3 Pension Plans.
- Performs monthly accrual calculations and journal entries.
- Conducts monthly mid-market valuations on local equities for Pension Plans.
- Checks and confirms transfer of funds in between bank accounts and prepares journals for such receipts/payments.
- Reconciles intercompany accounts between the Pension Plans and Life (VAT, mortgages, investment fees).
- Prepares CBTT Semi-annual reports for the pension plans.
- Preparation of Draft Financial Statements for the Pension Plans annually.
- Preparation of quarterly management accounts for all 3 pension plans with supporting notes and schedules.
- Prepares and reconciles journals, local and foreign investment sub-ledgers to general ledger for Pension Plans.
- Reconciles the foreign managed portfolio and prepares journals for all movements within the foreign portfolios.
- Reconciles the bank accounts for the Pension Plans.
- Assist with the preparation of various reports for trustees, management and board of Directors.
- Assist with quarterly reports for Life including Consol Pack, Stat Pack, CBTT Quarterly Returns, Notional Segregation of Assets, Bond Valuations.
- Assist with Life year end audit including assisting with preparing financial statements and annual returns.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Job Education & Qualifications:
- Minimum ACCA Level 2 or Degree in Accounting or
- Equivalent combination of training and experience
Job Training:
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of Accounting Standards, statutory regulations, insurance legislation, vat administration, corporate taxation
- Previous experience in an investments or Pension Plan environment desirable
- Skill in both verbal and written communication
- Minimum 2 years experience in an accounting environment.
- Experience in insurance industry will be an asset.
