AI Software Engineer
We are partnering with a growing mobile and web-based SaaS organization serving the home care industry. The company's technology helps home care providers streamline critical administrative and operational processes, including scheduling, documentation, time and attendance, payroll, billing, and practice management. Our client's development organization is rethinking how modern software is built and has transitioned to an AI-first, spec-driven development model, leveraging agentic AI to accelerate the delivery of high-quality products and features to customers. Our client is looking for a software engineer who is excited to build in this new environment.
Role Overview
As an AI Developer / Software Engineer, you will help design, build, test, and deliver new functionality across a SaaS platform using agentic AI as a core part of the software development process.
This is not a traditional development position centered around manually writing code all day. Instead, you will use your software engineering knowledge to effectively direct AI development tools, evaluate the solutions they produce, make informed technical decisions, test and refine outputs, and shepherd features from initial requirements through production.
You must still be a strong developer at your core. You should be comfortable reading and understanding code, evaluating architectural and data-structure decisions, identifying poor technical choices, troubleshooting issues, and guiding AI toward better solutions.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is obsessed with solving customer problems and getting quality products into customers' hands quickly. The right person takes ownership, moves through obstacles, communicates proactively, and sees projects through to completion.
What You'll Do
- Use agentic AI development tools to build and deliver production-ready features across web and application platforms.
- Translate product requirements and technical specifications into effective instructions, context, and workflows for AI development agents.
- Review, understand, test, and refine AI-generated code rather than simply accepting generated solutions at face value.
- Apply your software engineering experience to evaluate technical decisions involving architecture, APIs, data structures, database design, performance, maintainability, and scalability.
- Own features end-to-end, from understanding the underlying customer problem through development, testing, deployment, and production validation.
- Partner closely with Product Managers to understand requirements, ask the right questions, identify gaps, and ensure solutions address the actual customer need.
- Work directly with customers when needed to understand workflows, challenges, requirements, and the impact of proposed product solutions.
- Build and enhance solutions within a modern technology environment, including TypeScript/JavaScript, Microsoft Azure, RESTful APIs, Cosmos DB, and relational/SQL databases.
- Test and validate AI-generated solutions to ensure functionality, reliability, performance, security, and overall code quality.
- Troubleshoot production issues and use both engineering expertise and AI-assisted development workflows to identify and implement solutions quickly.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less-experienced developers, helping reinforce sound development practices and technical decision-making.
- Continuously explore new AI development tools, agentic workflows, and engineering practices that can improve development speed and product quality.
- Take accountability for commitments and proactively communicate progress, risks, questions, and roadblocks without requiring extensive oversight.
What We're Looking For
- Professional software development experience with a strong foundation in traditional software engineering and hands-on coding.
- Demonstrated experience using AI or agentic AI tools to build software, whether through professional projects, personal projects, open-source work, applications, games, prototypes, or other products.
- A genuine interest in AI-native software development and a willingness to move beyond traditional manual coding workflows.
- Strong experience with TypeScript and/or JavaScript and the ability to comfortably read, understand, evaluate, and troubleshoot an existing codebase.
- Experience developing applications in a cloud environment, preferably Microsoft Azure.
- Understanding of modern API architecture, ideally including RESTful APIs.
- Experience working with databases, ideally including both NoSQL/document databases and relational SQL databases.
- Strong knowledge of fundamental software engineering concepts, including data structures, application architecture, testing, debugging, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Ability to evaluate multiple technical approaches and make informed decisions rather than relying solely on AI-generated recommendations.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a bias toward action and execution.
- Exceptional ownership mentality — someone who can take a project, run with it, overcome barriers, and get it across the finish line.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to interact professionally with Product Managers, developers, leadership, and customers.
- Comfort working independently in a remote environment while remaining highly responsive, accessible, and engaged with the team.
- Curiosity and passion for software development outside of assigned work. Personal applications, AI projects, open-source contributions, prototypes, or other examples of independent development are highly valued.
- Healthcare SaaS, home care technology, or other SaaS product experience is a plus, but not required.
Technology Environment
The current and evolving technology environment includes:
TypeScript / JavaScript Microsoft Azure RESTful APIs Cosmos DB SQL / Relational Databases Agentic AI Development Git Cloud-Based SaaS Architecture
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role is not measured by how many lines of code you personally write.
It is measured by your ability to:
- Understand the problem we are trying to solve.
- Translate that problem into a clear technical approach.
- Effectively leverage AI to build the solution.
- Recognize when AI is making the wrong technical decision.
- Test, refine, and improve the resulting product.
- Communicate effectively with the people involved.
- Take ownership without needing to be constantly managed.
- Deliver high-quality features quickly and reliably.
- Ultimately put better products into the hands of customers.
