By prioritizing local hiring and supporting career opportunities throughout Sacramento, the Bay Area, and the Central Valley, we promote flexibility, regional engagement, and a strong sense of community connection and belonging.
Your Role with the Company
As a Resident Engineer, you’ll be at the center of delivering critical transportation and infrastructure projects across the Sacramento region, leading from both the field and the office. This role offers true hands‑on involvement, where your technical expertise, leadership, and judgment directly influence project success. You’ll partner closely with clients, Caltrans, contractors, and stakeholders to keep construction moving forward safely, efficiently, and in full compliance, all while ensuring projects are delivered with quality and integrity.
Working side‑by‑side with the client's Senior Management, you’ll help drive day‑to‑day construction activities, serving as a key problem‑solver and trusted point of coordination. From tracking progress and resolving field issues to maintaining complete and accurate documentation, you’ll keep the project organized, transparent, and on track. You’ll lead weekly construction progress meetings, coordinate inspections, manage RFIs, submittals, and contract change orders, and ensure communication flows seamlessly across the entire project team.
This role is ideal for a motivated professional who enjoys juggling multiple priorities, thrives in a collaborative environment, and takes pride in delivering high‑quality work. You’ll evaluate extra work, review certified payrolls, prepare force account analyses, and assist with project closeout and claims resolution, seeing projects through from construction to completion. If you’re energized by complex infrastructure work, value professionalism, and want a role where your contributions truly make an impact, this position offers an exciting opportunity to grow and lead on meaningful public works projects.
Community Information
Sacramento, CA, is an ideal place for early‑career professionals looking to build experience without the pressures of larger, more expensive metro areas. The region offers a lower cost of living than the Bay Area, shorter commutes, and more attainable housing, making it easier to focus on career growth while still enjoying a balanced lifestyle.
As a growing hub for engineering, construction, and infrastructure projects, Sacramento provides hands‑on opportunities to gain diverse project experience early in your career. Outside of work, the area offers an active social scene, great restaurants, and easy access to outdoor adventures, whether that’s riverside trails after work or weekend trips to Lake Tahoe, Napa Valley, or the Bay Area. It’s a place where you can grow professionally, build meaningful connections, and enjoy life outside the office.
Background Profile:
You’re a California‑licensed Civil Engineer who knows what it takes to deliver highway and roadway projects the right way. You speak Caltrans from Standard Specifications to plans and the Construction Manual, and you’ve spent at least four years in the thick of highway construction, whether in office engineering, roadway inspection, or both. You’re comfortable navigating complex public works projects and confidently supporting construction from groundbreaking to closeout.
This role is built for someone who’s not afraid to be where the work happens. Some days that mean reviewing plans, logs, and documentation with precision; other days it means being out on an active construction site, walking the alignment, coordinating with field teams, and ensuring safety, quality, and compliance at every step. You’re flexible, adaptable, and understand that successful transportation projects may require night work, weekend shifts, and travel to project sites throughout California.
You’re tech‑savvy and organized, using tools like Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and scheduling software to keep projects moving forward. If you have experience with Caltrans systems such as LCS, iEWB, or CAS, or scheduling platforms like P6, P3, or MS Project, even better, it means you’ll hit the ground running. Industry certifications like ACI Field Technician, QSP, or similar only add to your edge.
Just as important as your technical background is how you work. You communicate clearly, write with purpose, and collaborate effortlessly with staff, clients, contractors, and outside agencies. You’re detail‑oriented, decisive, and capable of solving field issues using sound professional judgment, even with limited supervision. Safety isn’t an afterthought; it’s embedded in everything you do.
If you thrive in dynamic environments, enjoy balancing field and office responsibilities, and want to play a hands‑on role in building California’s infrastructure, this is the kind of opportunity where your skills, experience, and leadership truly shine.
Mozamo Engineering is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including individuals with disabilities and veterans.
