As the Assistant Superintendent at a family-owned surface mining operation, you will lead a skilled maintenance team dedicated to maximizing the reliability and performance of rock crushing equipment, including crushers, screens, and conveyors. Your hands-on mechanical expertise, strong leadership, and unwavering commitment to safety will be key to driving operational excellence in a demanding industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance Oversight: Supervise and perform preventative and corrective maintenance on crushing plant equipment, including jaw crushers, cone crushers, screens, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
- Team Leadership: Lead a team of 1-4 maintenance technicians, assigning tasks, providing training, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Equipment Inspections: Conduct daily inspections of equipment to identify potential issues, ensure proper lubrication, and maintain operational reliability.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, and perform or oversee repairs to minimize downtime.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to OSHA regulations, MSHA standards (if applicable), and company safety policies.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate maintenance logs, document repairs, and update CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) as required.
- Inventory Management: Coordinate with supervisors to manage spare parts inventory and order necessary materials for repairs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with plant operators, supervisors, and management to support production goals and address operational challenges.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance maintenance processes.

Background Profile:- Experience: 5 years of maintenance experience in a rock crushing plant, quarry, or similar heavy industrial setting, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in maintaining and repairing crushers, conveyors, screens, hydraulic systems, and electrical components. Experience with welding, torching, and fabrication is a plus.
- Certifications: MSHA Part 46 or 48 certification preferred (company will provide training if needed). Relevant certifications in welding, hydraulics, or electrical systems are an asset.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Safety Focus: In-depth knowledge of OSHA and MSHA safety standards, with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Other: Valid driver’s license required; CDL is a plus. Willingness to work Monday-Friday, with occasional overtime or weekend shifts as needed.
