Job Title: Mechanical Technician
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

SUMMARY
Installs, maintains, and repairs industrial machinery and equipment. Works daily to ensure assigned areas of responsibility are working with risk lowered to As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) specifically in an effort to achieve ZERO HARM so no injuries, illness or negative impact occurs to employees, property, the environment or the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Other duties may be assigned.

Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment. Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as robots or programmable controllers.
Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
Comprehends technical literature (i.e. equipment and operating manuals), safety literature (i.e. lockout/tagout procedures, safety bulletins, MSDS sheets), and plant policy manuals.
Understands production processes and operation of machinery for troubleshooting purposes.
Completes Maximo entries for work orders.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education:
Broad technical training (high school plus 1 to 3 years apprenticeship/applied trades training). Training requires a basic knowledge in the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and various types of precision measuring instruments.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 years work-related experience is required.
