Controller
Overview:
Our client, is seeking a highly skilled Controller to manage its day-to-day financial operations.
Position Summary:
The Controller will oversee the company's daily financial management, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with tax regulations, and efficiency in accounting processes. The ideal candidate will have a CPA designation, over 8 years of experience in accounting and finance, and a background in audit at a Big 4 firm at the manager level. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management & Reporting: Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, prepare financial statements, and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Tax Compliance: Manage monthly tax filings, including HST, payroll taxes, and corporate tax installments.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Oversee the accounts payable and receivable functions.
- Payroll Management: Ensure accurate payroll processing, compliance, and timely remittances.
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Financial Analysis & Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements in financial operations and recommend best practices to enhance efficiency.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with the Vice President of Finance and other key stakeholders to support strategic financial initiatives. Provide mentorship and guidance to the accounting team.
Qualifications & Experience:
- CPA designation is required.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance.
- Prior experience in a Big 4 accounting firm at the manager level in audit is strongly preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting, tax compliance, and accounting principles.
- Experience in the rental or equipment industry is an asset but not required.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel. ERP implementation experience is an asset.
- Experience in overseeing a small accounting team.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
